Alec Baldwin’s shooting in a West Hollywood parking garage is one of the most high-profile and controversial cases of 2018. The actor was found dead in his vehicle parked inside a garage at the address of his home. Police and prosecutors have since said Baldwin shot himself in the head with a gun he kept in his car.

NBC News was last on the scene in February 2018, when Baldwin’s death was confirmed. The week that followed was filled with questions that continued to linger unanswered nearly a year later. We examine those lingering questions, as well as issues still being raised by investigators.

How Alec Baldwin died

In August 2018, Baldwin’s then-fiancée was at the center of a story.

An Amber Alert was issued for her after a man she was dating was identified as a potential suspect in her husband’s death, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Baldwin was one of three people police believe were inside the building when the 911 call came in.

The 911 recording of the scene that night is part of the evidence the Sheriff’s Department has gathered over the course of the investigation. The 911 call reveals that Baldwin was with a friend and another man, who cops describe as his roommate. Police said they were shot in a parking garage at the building they were in.

The building is located at 709 San Pedro, the same address as the actor’s home, where police found his body.

Investigators said they believe Baldwin was shot by a single individual, but it’s unclear who may have shot him. Baldwin, 40, was a former Marine. The sheriff’s department has ruled out foul play as the cause of his death, and Baldwin’s friends and family have told NBC News that
