Anaheim’s mayor has refused to release a list of emails that might show corruption in his office, citing their possible damage to his leadership to potential voters.

He has also refused to say whether he sent or received correspondence sent from the private email address he uses – an open question since emails obtained through an FBI search warrant may potentially show the mayor using his City Atty. Tom Tait’s office to communicate with a business he is running.

Since the city has been in turmoil in recent weeks, the mayor’s actions have drawn criticism from other top elected officials in the city, including a new Republican mayor.

But his actions have also sparked an international backlash. The city is currently on trial in federal court on bribery charges stemming from the FBI’s investigation.

A judge has not yet ruled on a motion to quash a warrant of search for emails on the private account, but as of late Tuesday, Tait had refused to release any documents that he said would reveal whether he has violated his sworn duty to uphold the laws of the United States.
