The $1.25 billion Pacific Park entertainment complex on San Pedro Seamount will begin construction this year, with a groundbreaking ceremony to follow in May.
The $1.25 billion project, expected to be the largest and most luxurious apartment building in the area, has been five years in the making. It will be the home of the San Pedro Bay Hotel and Conference Center and also house the three-story Pacific Park Tower, which will be the tallest structure in Mission Valley.
The groundbreaking, planned for late May, will mark the start of construction for a 17-acre, $11.95 million property located at Pacific and Bayside Streets. Construction is expected to take about two years to complete.
“Pacific Park is a project that has been in the making for a long time,” said Pacific Park Development’s chief executive officer, Stephen E. O’Donnell.
“We’re excited to see this become a reality. Building a 21,000-square-foot hotel and conference center will be a major development and make San Pedro Bay a more vibrant and dynamic area.”
Construction on the complex, expected to be built in two parts, is scheduled to begin this year.
“It’s a great project for San Pedro, but it’s particularly good for Mission Valley,” said O’Donnell. “This is a very exciting project.”
To be sure, the Pacific Park complex will be larger than previous attempts to build an entertainment complex on Mission Beach.
“The previous developer proposed building a one-story $500 million hotel, but it would have been the biggest hotel in Mission Beach,” said O’Donnell, who has developed several large hotels in the Mission Bay area.
Instead, the Pacific Park project includes a three-story, $1.25 million hotel and conference center with a 2,000-square-foot bar and restaurant and a 4,000
