The president’s $5.5 million for his 2000 book may well have been an error by Trump, and he made no such offer, his new publisher said in a recent book review. “A lot of people have written that Mr. Trump made a generous offer,” his new publisher, David Fahrenthold, wrote in his review of Trump: The Art of the Deal, which came out on Thursday. “He’d have gotten a lot more than $5.5 million if he’d asked for $5 million. It was a ‘get to keep’ kind of offer,” he wrote. “It was also about a lot more than just the book.” In a recent interview, Trump told the New York Times he had offered to write the book for free, but had been turned down.
